Diesel train: We only imported 2 not 12 – GRDA
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Railways Development Authority (GRDA), Mr. Yaw Owusu, has set the record straight, emphasising that the authority has only imported two diesel-powered engine trains for a test run on its recently constructed Tema-Mpakadan route in the Greater Accra and Eastern Regions.
This clarification comes in response to misleading reports on social media, suggesting that the GRDA had acquired some 12 modern trains for regional operations.
Mr. Owusu dismissed the false information circulating on social media, asserting that only two trains had been imported for a trial run on the Tema-Mpakadan route.
He clarified that these trains are expected to arrive in Ghana by March, with the shipment process set to commence next month.
The CEO made these clarifications during an interview on Citi FM’s 6:00 AM news on Wednesday, January 24, 2024.
The statement aims to correct misinformation and provide accurate details regarding the GRDA’s recent train acquisitions for testing purposes on the specified route.
